Klaus Peter Rippe

Klaus Peter Rippe (* 1959 in Kassel ) is a German philosopher and university professor.

Life

Rippe grew up in the north Hessian village of Helsa , where his parents ran a mom and pop shop. He studied philosophy, history and ethnology at the Georg-August University in Göttingen . After receiving his doctorate in 1989 with a thesis on the topic of "Limits and Validity of Ethical Relativism", he was a research assistant at the universities of Saarbrücken , Mainz and Zurich . He completed his habilitation in 2002 at the University of Zurich. He then worked in Switzerland for a consultancy that prepared ethical reports. In 2008 he accepted a professorship for practical philosophy at the Karlsruhe University of Education . He continues to live in Zurich with his wife.

Klaus Peter Rippe is a member of the " European Academy of Sciences and Arts ". Since 2015 he has been President of the “ Federal Ethics Commission for Biotechnology in the Extra-Human Sector ”. He already held this office from 2000–2011. During his term of office in 2008 he was awarded the Peace Ig Nobel Prize to the Commission for its report "Dignity of Creatures in Plants - The moral consideration of plants for their own sake"

In 2016 he was elected rector of the Karlsruhe University of Education.

Research priorities

Rippe deals with questions of applied ethics and publishes in particular on topics of animal , economic and risk ethics .
