Klaus Schulz (theologian)

Klaus Schulz (* 1948 ) is a Lutheran theologian and scientist ( biology ). He is a professor emeritus for Biblical Theology and was appointed as the first professor at the newly founded YMCA University by the Hessian Ministry for Science and Art in 2009. At the same time he was a member of the university management as Vice Rector until his retirement.

Life

After graduating from high school, Klaus Schulz studied biology and chemistry at the Otto-Hahn-Gymnasium in Herne for the qualification to teach higher education at the Philipps University in Marburg. The first state examination was followed by work on the doctorate to become a Dr. rer. nat. at the Department of Biology, which he finished in Marburg in 1977. At the same time, Schulz began, decisively influenced by the encounter with Klaus Vollmer , a theological training at the mission seminar of the "Missionsanstalt Hermannsburg" (known since 1975 as Ev. Luther. Missionswerk in Lower Saxony - ELM ). The first theological exam (1977) was followed by a four-year vicariate in Lower Saxony and a vicariate abroad at the German Evangelical Congregation in San Matéo in Bogotá ( Colombia ). After successfully passing the second theological exam, he became theological advisor to the mission director of the ELM. Subsequently, he worked as deputy head of the "staff school at the mission seminar " and as head of studies in the study and retreat center in Hof Beutzen near Hermannsburg. In 1997 Schulz was accepted as a visiting professor at the Lutheran Bible Institute in Seattle / USA and taught systematic theology in the summer semester . After the ordination as pastor (in honorary office) of the Ev. Luth. Landeskirche Hannover moved to the CVJM-Kolleg in Kassel in 2003 , where he became a lecturer for theological subjects. Together with the then General Secretary, Pastor Wolfgang Neuser , he made a significant contribution to the establishment and development of the YMCA University. In 2009 he was appointed the first professor at the YMCA University in the field of "Biblical Theology". Until his retirement in 2015, Schulz was prorector of the YMCA University. Since 2017 he has been active as president of the "diehochschulpaten" association for the further development of the YMCA University.
