Teaching

As early as 1967, Deichgräber pointed out in his dissertation, Divine Hymn and Hymn of Christ in Early Christianity , that the New Testament congregation was essentially a praising congregation. The Bible is not primarily communication, not even revelation, but praise to God. The didactic and parenetic parts of the New Testament letters are evidence of this . The praise is, as it were, a bracket, a framework that encompasses everything, penetrates everything and gives everything measure and direction. Letters begin with thanks and eulogies , and doxologies are the last word. Because God's action is praiseworthy, it can only be recognized as praiseworthy. The praise becomes the place of the act of God, of his mercy, of the eschatological turning point. The worship service is to be determined by the praise of the congregation and consequently to be designed accordingly. Christian preaching is basically public praise, which is also based on the apocalyptic idea that the earthly cult is an image of the heavenly worship. People would go into praise as the medium, the place of salvation and the presence of God's mercy, and only through this would they become a community. Praise be on the downward slope and create the downward slope; God can only be praised from a higher level. Consequently, the praise of God can only come from God himself. Only the word of God can praise God. But the word of God, in the beginning with God, becomes flesh in Jesus Christ , whereby nothing less than the glory of God, the praise of God, is to be seen. The praise of God be Christ, and the church live in Christ when it enters into the praise of God. There is no other legitimate way to speak of God than by praising and honoring him. In praise it is said that God is everything in everyone.

In his more recent works, Deichgräber mainly dealt with topics such as prayer , meditation and spirituality from a Christian perspective. He wants to inform the reader about the diversity of Christian spirituality and guide them to concrete, practical steps.
