Klaus Sobolewski

Klaus Sobolewski (born August 4, 1962 in Annaberg-Buchholz , † July 3, 2006 in Chemnitz ) was a German painter, graphic artist and poet.

Life

Klaus Sobolewski had been friends with the artist and philosopher Carlfriedrich Claus since early childhood. In addition to the dialogue with Carlfriedrich Claus , he owed influences on his work to his occupation with magic. After various activities, he has been working as a freelancer since 1984 and has lived in Chemnitz since 1988. Above all, prints were made. Since 2001 he turned to oil painting. Until his suicide on July 3, 2006, numerous lyrical texts were written.

Klaus Sobolewski Archive

The archive was founded after the death of Klaus Sobolewski due to the extensive material in the collection of the Art Cellar in Annaberg. It is intended to collect and preserve the pictorial and poetic work of Klaus Sobolewski, as well as to document the most important stages in life. On the occasion of the founding of the archive in May 2007, 80 graphics, 35 mixed media, oil paintings, watercolors and overpaintings, around a dozen photographs and photograms (pictures by KS), 2 small sculptures, and 200 letters, faxes, postcards by Klaus Sobolewski, around 60 letters and cards from Carlfriedrich Claus to Klaus Sobolewski, texts by Klaus Sobolewski, as well as a tape with texts spoken by himself.

The archive endeavors to expand the collection. The purpose of the archive is to keep Klaus Sobolewski's work alive and to act as a lender.
