Klaus Solmecke

Klaus Dieter Solmecke (born May 12, 1942 in Gevelsberg ) is a former mayor of the city of Gevelsberg (SPD).

First he worked as a machine fitter and later as a technical draftsman . After attending the engineering school in Hagen , he completed his engineering degree in order to then work as an engineer. This was followed by a teacher training course and a degree in engineering at the University of Dortmund in the fields of mechanical engineering and chemical technology , which he completed with a doctorate in 1983.

Klaus Solmecke was teaching at the Ennepetal Vocational Schools as early as the 1970s , where he was promoted to director of studies, deputy director in 1987 and director in 1987.

From 1991 to 1996 he was honorary, from 1996 to October 2004 full-time mayor of Gevelsberg. He campaigned for inner-city traffic planning - the southern bypass and Heidestrasse - and the Gevelsberg hospital and the Ennepebogen project. He sponsored the renovation of the indoor pool and conversion to a swimming pool in Gevelsberg . He is particularly committed to the town twinning with Vendome in France , Sprottau in Poland and Butera in Sicily in Italy . Solmecke has been an honorary citizen of the town of Sprottau since 2004. Solmecke is also involved in the Schwelm Evangelical Church District in the partner church districts in West Papua and as a board member in the "Foundation for Education in Papua".

His son is the lawyer Christian Solmecke .
