Christian Solmecke (born November 13, 1973 in Hagen ) is a German lawyer , author and web video producer .

Life

After studying law at the University of Bochum and the University of Cologne , Solmecke completed a Master of Laws degree (LL.M.) in IT law at the Universities of Hanover and Leuven (Belgium) in 2001 . Until 2004 he also worked as a freelance journalist and radio host for WDR . In 2007 he founded the photo community and stock photo agency “piqs.de” and has been its owner ever since. Solmecke has been a partner in the Cologne law firm "Wilde Beuger Solmecke" since 2010. There he represents clients in the areas of media and IT law.

In 2010 Solmecke founded the German Institute for Communication and Law on the Internet (DIKRI) at the Cologne Business School together with Ralf Höcker , Klemens Skibicki and Frank Mühlenbeck . Solmecke heads the institute together with Mühlenbeck as managing director. He is a board member of the Legal Intelligence Initiative .

In 2012, a BGH attorney commissioned by Solmecke fought a judgment on the liability of parents for their underage children at the Federal Court of Justice in Karlsruhe, according to which parents are not liable for their children if they have fulfilled a certain duty to inform. In 2017, a BGH lawyer commissioned by Solmecke reached before the Federal Court of Justice that family members do not have to spy on one another in order to clear up a file-sharing act. He has also appeared on TV talk shows and expert panels on the subject of social media law or IT law and writes the weekly column “Law on the Net” for the daily Express .

Since July 23, 2010, Solmecke has been running the “Kanzlei WBS” channel on YouTube in cooperation with his law firm, in which he deals with legal issues and questions from viewers. Christian Solmecke and his team have also been running the Instagram page rechts2go since October 2019. This site now has over 35,000 followers and publishes new posts every day on all legal issues or legal malpractices.

During the negotiations on the European copyright reform in 2019, he played a key role in the work of the dissenting votes, both on his Internet channels and at the demonstrations and events.
