Klaus Winterhager (born March 19, 1929 in Lennep ; † January 7, 2016 in Frankfurt am Main ) was a German graphic designer and communication designer .

Life

After graduating from high school in 1951, Klaus Winterhager studied at the humanistic grammar school in Remscheid at the Cologne factory school in the "class for free graphics". In 1955 he was appointed master student . After graduating, he worked as a freelance graphic designer and textile designer.

In 1969 he was also involved with a teaching position at what was then the Werkkunstschule Wuppertal . With the establishment of the Bergische Universität - Comprehensive University Wuppertal in 1974, he became a full-time lecturer there; In 1982 he was appointed professor of graphic design at the Bergische Universität Wuppertal . In 1994 he retired.

Klaus Winterhager was above all a typographer . He has designed numerous logos and signets for German design institutes, the professional organizations BDG and VDID, the North Rhine-Westphalia Chamber of Architects, for Inter Nationes, the Witten-Herdecke University, the Kreissparkasse Cologne, the Zanders Feinpapier GmbH etc. The "Uni-Löwe" of the Bergische Universität Wuppertal also came from him. Numerous posters and invitations to art exhibitions and concerts came from his studio.

From 1989 to 2006 Winterhager was the designer of 126 issues of the journal Kulturchronik published by Inter Nationes and the Goethe Institute , later renamed Kulturjournal .

He was a member of the German Werkbund .
