The Kleinbahn-AG Wolmirstedt – Colbitz opened on September 9, 1910 a nearly nine kilometer long standard gauge railway line , which branched off from the Magdeburg – Wittenberge railway line in Wolmirstedt and led north to Colbitz in the south of the Colbitz-Letzlinger Heide . The AG had acquired a forest railway from the railway construction company Becker & Co in Berlin , which transported wood on the same route from late 1902 / early 1903 to the summer of 1908.

When it was founded on November 23, 1909, capital shares had taken over:

  • the Kingdom of Prussia and the Province of Saxony
  • the Prussian domain and forest treasury
  • District and city of Wolmirstedt and the communities of Colbitz and Dolle
  • Individuals and companies

In 1928 the management moved its headquarters from Wolmirstedt to Colbitz.

Mainly agricultural products, wood, fertilizers and coal were transported in freight transport. In 1913, 26,881 t of goods and 51,074 people were transported.

From January 15, 1943, the company was called "Eisenbahn-AG Wolmirstedt-Colbitz". The modest vehicle fleet in 1911 included two two-axle steam locomotives from the Henschel locomotive factory , five passenger cars, one packing car and ten freight cars, in 1939 one steam locomotive, a two-axle motor car from Gottfried Lindner AG , four passenger cars, one packing car and six freight cars.

The small railway department of the Provincial Association of Saxony in Merseburg ran the business until 1945/46 , after the turn of the year 1946/1947 the Saxon Provincial Railways GmbH and from April 1, 1949 the Deutsche Reichsbahn . This stopped passenger traffic on January 31, 1961 and all traffic on December 31, 1965 and dismantled the tracks. All that remains is a siding of the Wolmirstedt substation , the area of which was previously crossed by the small railway.
