Small western wall
The little western wall , in Hebrew הכותל הקטן, is a Jewish place of prayer in the Muslim Quarter of Jerusalem's Old City near the iron gate that leads to the Temple Mount . The wall dates from the time of the Second Temple ( 516 BC - 70 AD). It is the continuation of the larger part of the western retaining wall of the Temple Mount known as the Western Wall and is almost directly opposite the Holy of Holies of the Temple. The small western wall is less known and visited than the larger section of the wall.
Dimensions
Unlike the well-known “Wailing Wall”, the small western wall is not in a larger square, but in a narrow alley, and only the two lowest visible rows of stones date from the time of the Second Temple. The small western wall represents the state in which the Western Wall was in the time before the Six Day War .
meaning
Because the little western wall is much closer to the place of the holy of holies of the Jewish temple, it is significant for Jews who want to pray as close as possible to the holiest place of the Jewish faith. Muslim residents know the place as Ribāṭ al-Kurd (Kurdish hospice).
