The Small Saami Scriptures were founded in 2008 by Michael Rießler and Elisabeth Scheller at the Humboldt University in Berlin to publish multilingual and interdisciplinary articles on the languages, literatures and cultures in Sápmi . The series was discontinued in 2014 after only two published titles and has since appeared under new editorship as Samica .

History and profile

Small Saami Scriptures, vol. 2

The designer Anne-Christin Jyrch designed the furnishings for the series; Charis SIL was used as the typeface . The publishing activity had purely scientific and no economic goals.

Volume 1 (German "Tales of the Old Lazar") contains the stories of the Sami teacher Lazar Dmitriewitsch Jakowlew (1918–1993) from Lowosero in Kildin Sami, collected by Nina Afanassjewa , and was intended to support the teaching of this endangered language. Volume 2 (German "Gedichte und Poeme über das Samenland ") is the second published volume of poetry by the Scoltsamian writer and poet Askold Baschanow . The book, which for the first time also presents an English translation of Bazhanov's poetry in addition to the original Russian version, came about primarily through Elisabeth Scheller's personal commitment and her work with the editing of the book.
