Christmas cycle of the crucians

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Christmas cycle of the Kruzians ( RMWV 2) is a secular and spiritual choir cycle by the Dresden Kreuzkantor Rudolf Mauersberger . The work is composed for solos and choirs of different groups a cappella or piano.

History and texts

Nutcracker

Mauersberger composed the cycle in 1944 in the last year of the Second World War, adding further parts until 1946.

The reason for the composition was the relocation of Mauersberger's large collection of Ore Mountains carvings and the model of the village of Mauersberg from the apartment on Johann-Georgen-Allee in Dresden during the last months of the war. According to Mauersberger, his heart became so heavy that the need arose to deal with the local customs, stories and songs about Christmas events. As a result, the three parts of the cycle were created. In the first part, Mauersberger set the Erzgebirge legend The Little Melchior and the Christmas Child (RMWV 2/4) to music . In the second part he musically described the nutcracker and the incense cone man . These pieces were serenely set to music. In part 3 he brings a Christmas mass in a happy and serious light . The musicologist Matthias Herrmann sees islands in the pieces he created ... [which for Mauersberger] ... meant an immovable, ideal world, regardless of external circumstances. All texts, except No. 13, come from the Golden Christmas Book of the Erzgebirge local poet Kurt Arnold Findeisen , The Nutcracker Company (No. 13) comes from Kurt Lohmeyer .

structure

The structure follows the Rudolf Mauersberger works directory. The order of the pieces in the directory is based on the program sheets for performances by the Dresden Kreuzchor on December 22, 1953 and December 12, 1970.
