features
With 3.5 centimeters long front wings, the moths do not quite reach the size of the large forest porter . But only a specialist with a genital examination can make absolutely certain distinctions . Sometimes the location helps. Tree trunks, on which the butterflies are well camouflaged because of their drawing, are used for resting .

Both species love dry and sandy soils. The distribution area extends from southern France to Eastern Europe . But you can also find it in the mountains of the Iberian Peninsula and Italy .
Flight and caterpillar time
The animals fly from July to August. The caterpillar season is from September to June. As a result, these nocturnal caterpillars also overwinter.
