Clemata

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Klemata was a Christian pop band from Frankfurt am Main , which was mainly active in the 1980s and 1990s .

history

Klemata was founded in 1974 on a spare time of the Baptist congregation Frankfurt-Nordwest, initially under the name Wegweiser . Four years later, after a difficult start, the band decided to rename themselves Klemata . They chose the Greek word for grapevine in reference to a biblical parable .

In 1985 Sören Kahl became the lead singer at Klemata. He was followed by other new members on bass , guitar and keyboard . With this line-up, the band made their first sound recording in a recreational home that had been converted into a studio and thus produced the take-away cassette themselves . The band recorded their first studio album Zeit für dich five years later in 1990 in the Loreley studio. In 1991 the following album, Wie neu, was published by Gerth Medien . In 1993 Klemata released their third album To the goal . Sören Kahl left the band at the end of the same year. This leads to a noticeable change in style of the band, as a front woman, Claudia Lemperle - until then the band's background singer, took over. With her, the group released their last album Unbelievable , which was released in 1996. The band performed their last project in 1998 in collaboration with musician friends with the musical Lukas .

In the years of its existence, Klemata performed throughout Germany in large halls such as the Jahrhunderthalle in Frankfurt as well as in prisons, churches and clubs. In 2010, the former guitarist and keyboardist of the band Thomas Weidner founded the Klemata Project together with Lassoh Coulibaly, which is conceptually based on the history of the band.
