tasks

The clergy association is a registered association . It is an amalgamation of the diocesan clergy associations of the dioceses of Augsburg , Bamberg , Eichstätt , Munich and Freising , Passau , Regensburg , Speyer and Würzburg . The aims of the association are:

  • Providing information and advice on questions relating to the professional and private life of the clergy
  • Granting legal protection to clerics
  • moral and material support for clergy
  • Protection of professional honor
  • Conclusion of collective agreements

Facilities

The association maintains various facilities to achieve its goals:

  • the office in Munich
  • the monthly Klerusblatt as an association magazine
  • the Klerushilfe eV for financial support of clerics in need
  • the St. Josef recreation center in Garmisch-Partenkirchen
  • various courses (e.g. annual retreats for priests and religious sisters)

history

The Association of Clerics was founded on December 17, 1919 on the initiative of Cardinal Michael von Faulhaber . At the same time, the association magazine Blätter for the Catholic clergy (since 1925 Klerusblatt ) was launched. By 1939 the association had around 6,200 members. During the time of National Socialism , the association was exposed to severe reprisals . The Klerusblatt was strictly censored and temporarily banned. After the development work after the Second World War , an essential task of the association in the 1960s was the implementation and explanation of the resolutions of the Second Vatican Council . Due to the falling number of priests, the association still had around 3,300 members in 2008.
