structure

Climate Friends (self- spelling KLIMA FREUNDE , your friends until 2020 ) is a group of voters from Cologne in North Rhine-Westphalia .

Creation and activity

Founded in March 2009, your friends took part in the 2009 local elections in Cologne . The group of voters ran for candidates in 29 of the 45 Cologne electoral districts and, after an official final result of 0.78% of the votes (absolute: 2904 votes), took a seat in the city council . In the 2014 local elections in Cologne , the group of voters ran for the first time in all 45 electoral districts and achieved 1.98% (7815 votes).

The electoral group thus moved into the city council with two seats and received two seats in the city center and Ehrenfeld district representatives . Your friends has only been represented on the city council by Thor-Geir Zimmermann since 2009, and Ute Symanski joined in 2014; In 2015 Tobias Scholz took over the council mandate from Ute Symanski. In the summer of 2016, after leaving the council, the two councilors founded the new voter group "GUT Köln", so that your friends lost their seats on the city council.

In the district representatives, your friends / climate friends are represented by Adrian Kasnitz for the inner city district and Harald Schuster for the Ehrenfeld district.

As a result of a transformation process since the beginning of 2020, people from the Cologne “Climate, Social and Democracy Movement” got together and put together a list. Since May 2020 the group has been called Climate Friends - Your Friends / Klimaliste Cologne, or Climate Friends for short, and as such takes part in the local elections in North Rhine-Westphalia . As a candidate for the office of mayor, she placed the climate activist Nicolin Gabrysch.

aims

One of the goals of Deine Freunde , according to their own statements, is to give Cologne residents more co-determination in the design of their city, to make local politics more transparent and to contribute to compliance with the 1.5 degree target according to the Paris Agreement at the local level . The group of voters sees itself as “committed laypeople” and “activist citizens” without “party reasoning”.

In the Cologne City Council, your friends campaigned against the demolition and new construction of the Cologne theater , against the expansion of the Godorf harbor and for a citizens' initiative that fought against the construction of a shopping center in Cologne-Ehrenfeld .

In their program, the Klima Freunde advocate, among other things, new forms of participation , a new mobility policy, “moderate digitization ” as well as sustainable housing and space for non-commercial culture.
