Cliff tower
The cliff tower , also called Rinteln cliff tower , near Rinteln in the district of Schaumburg in Lower Saxony is a 19.8 m high observation tower at 300 m above sea level. NHN high mountain Luhdener Klippen (also called Luhdener Klippenberg ) in the Weser Mountains .
Geographical location
The cliff tower is located about 12 km east-southeast of the Porta Westfalica breakthrough in the middle of the Weser Mountains. In the urban area of Rinteln, it is about 1.5 km north-northeast of the center of the Rinteln core town and 1.3 km (as the crow flies ) south of the core town of the municipality of Luhden on the wooded mountain Luhdener Klippen , which is part of the ridge.
history
The cliff tower was built in 1889 by the Rintelner Beautification Association from broken stone from the Luhden cliffs. It was financed by a tower lottery. The inauguration took place on August 18, 1889.
tourism
The cliff tower can be hiked from Rinteln and Luhden, among others. Its viewing platform can be reached via 103 steps in the tower. From there, there are views of the North German Plain and the western Weserbergland . There is a year-round restaurant at the foot of the tower.
