The Klo & So Sanitary Museum is a museum in Gmunden . It has been exhibiting historical sanitary objects since 1988, including toilets , sinks and bathtubs . The collection includes 300 exhibits , which the company Laufen Austria AG and its former director Fritz Lischka as a permanent loan were provided.

Museum concept

The sanitary museum was set up in 2008 together with other exhibitions in the newly built Gmunden museum house, the K-Hof Kammerhof Museen Gmunden . There it is on the top floor of the building. The K-Hof has an exhibition area of over 2000 m², which extends over 14 showrooms and is barrier-free . The exhibitions offer a chronological cross-section through the history of the city and the Traunsee area from the geological beginnings to the 21st century. The focus on ceramics runs through all of the exhibition rooms as a “red thread” with more than 1000 exhibits.

The museum for historical sanitary objects in the K-Hof presents itself as a cultural and historical contribution to the history of utility ceramics. In addition to the production of sanitary ware, it also sheds light on the change in hygiene standards and also conveys a story about the so-called “quiet place”. The invention of the modern water closet dates back to the end of the 16th century. However, it was still a long time before body chairs , room toilets or chamber pots were pushed out of the households.
