The monastery Bonlieu (Gironde) ( lat . Bonus locus, also Charbon-blanc) is a former Cistercian abbey in the town of Sainte-Eulalie , Canton Carbon-Blanc in the Gironde region Nouvelle-Aquitaine in France , about 10 kilometers northeast of Bordeaux .

history

The monastery was founded on the basis of a foundation by Sicaire (Sicart), the brother of Count Louis de Montferrand, in 1141 (or 1147) as the daughter of the Jouy monastery (in the Brie region ) and thus belonged to the filiation of the Primary Abbey of Pontigny . In Carbon-Blanc , the monastery built a leprosy hospital . The monastery was destroyed in the Hundred Years War , but it was rebuilt. During the French Revolution in 1791, the monastery, which was still inhabited by two monks in 1768, was closed. As a result, it came to the donor family.

Buildings and plant

Buildings from the 18th century have been preserved, as well as a building known as the "chapel" (probably the former monk's wing) with a vaulted hall ( refectory ?) From the 13th century. The church of the nearby Bassens preserves a cover stone of the alleged grave of St. Sicaire and wrought iron grilles from the abbey.
