founding

Brandenburg Monastery

The foundation of the monastery dates to the Franciscan back pater Rochus Schamoni, of a vow took off in honor of the Immaculate Conception , a convent to found. In order to live up to this vow, he initiated the foundation of the "Erholungsheim Schloß Brandenburg" association with the help of some good-natured people. In 1927 this association bought the Brandenburg Castle in Brandenburg , where the monastery was to be built, without equity .

In 1929 Schamoni laid the foundation stone for the future religious community through the election of the superior women . Maria Theresia Hecht was elected. Thanks to their tireless efforts, the monastery, founded on debt, was able to be put on a solid footing. In 1933 it came to the official religious establishment , the passing of the religious vows of Maria Theresa Hecht and five sisters.

Developments since 1933

In the course of time the community was renamed the Immaculate Sisters of the Seraphic Apostolate . The first branch in Heimenkirch was founded as early as 1933 . Despite the poverty and the problems with the strengthening National Socialist regime , the sisters founded the St. Johann children's home in 1935 , which was later joined by the St. Christoph special school for mentally and physically handicapped children in Zußdorf .

In 1946, with the end of the National Socialist regime, an auxiliary school for refugee children was opened in Gutenzell , four years later St. Konrad in Haslach , today a home for mentally handicapped adults with workshops. After just ten years, the facility was relocated from Gutenzell to Heudorf am Bussen and expanded to include the Edith Stein School .

In 1994 the St. Maria nursing home was opened in Regglisweiler .

In 2002 the last big change came with the construction of the retreat and conference house. Today the monastery has little historical structure. The oldest buildings were built in 1960.

At the end of 2005, the Immaculate Sisters founded the Theresia-Hecht-Foundation as a church foundation under private law in order to lead the institutions into the future in the spirit of the founder. On January 1, 2006, the sisters handed over their social institutions to the Theresia-Hecht-Foundation as non-profit limited liability companies.

The founder, Mother Maria Theresia Hecht, gave the community the preaching of the Gospel as a fundamental task that is fulfilled in the retreat and conference center.
