history
The English Trappist Abbey of Stapehill founded the Saint Mary's Abbey in 1932 (with the support of Mount Melleray Monastery ) not far from Mount Melleray in Southern Ireland ( elevated to an abbey in 1934 ). It was the first establishment of a Cistercian convent in Ireland since the Reformation (reverting to the name of the former Cistercian monastery of Saint Mary's Abbey in Dublin ).
