The Monastery Le Reclus (Notre-Dame du Reclus; Reclusum) is a former Cistercian abbey in the town of Talus-Saint-Prix in the department of Marne region Grand Est in France . It is located around 16 kilometers north of Sézanne and 17 kilometers east of Montmirail .
history
The monastery was founded in 1142 by Vauclair Monastery on the site where the hermit Hugues le Reclus lived. It belonged to the filiation of the Clairvaux Primary Abbey . In 1164 the monastery was moved to the Petit Morin valley on the edge of the Saint-Gond moor on land that the Count of Champagne Henry I had made available. Le Reclus always remained a small monastery. Despite being destroyed several times, it has preserved some medieval buildings. The monastery came to an end during the French Revolution .
Buildings and plant
The monk's building houses the east wing of the cloister as well as the armarium and the chapter house, the six vaults of which rest on two columns, the sacristy, the parlatoirum and the prison. The foundations of the Konversenhaus have been preserved. Only the flat choir with an oculus has survived from the church. The foundations of three chapels can still be seen from the right transept. The abbot's house from 1740 takes the place of the nave.
