The Loos Monastery (Notre-Dame de Loos, Looz, Laudes BMV) is a former Cistercian abbey in the commune of Loos in the Nord department ( Hauts-de-France region in France ), around two kilometers west of Lille , on formerly swampy terrain in Valley of the Deûle .

history

The monastery was in 1149 by the Count of Flanders Thierry, Count of Flanders and his wife Sibylle of Anjou donated and the Branch Clairvaux settled whose filiation it belonged. Several nunneries were subordinate to the monastery and it owned several seigneuries and manors. The site was drained by the monastery, which quickly gained great wealth. In 1752 the abbey was built in its present form. The monastery came to an end during the French Revolution . From 1817 the buildings served as a prison.

In August 2011 the prison was closed. The building has now been devastated by cable theft and vandalism .
