The Saint-Marcel Monastery (Sanctus Marcellus) is a former Cistercian abbey in the Tarn-et-Garonne department , Occitania region in France . The monastery was located in the municipality of Réalville about eight kilometers southwest of Caussade .
history
The monastery was founded in Septfonds in 1130 as the daughter of the Cadouin monastery by Adhémar, the Viscount of Bruniquel, and in 1163 moved to its later location. In 1175 it joined the Cistercian order . Via Cadouin it belonged to the filiation of the Pontigny Primary Abbey . The monastery suffered heavy losses in the wars of religion . The monastery buildings were destroyed in 1596 and rebuilt around 1607.
Buildings and plant
The plant has completely disappeared. In their place, a castle was built in 1870, which belongs to the Touring Club de France.
