history

View of the monastery

The monastery is said to go back to the time of the Visigoths . In the 11th century it was renewed by Mozarabic monks who had come from Cordoba . In 1245 it joined the Cistercian order as a daughter monastery of Carracedo Monastery and thus belonged to the filiation of Cîteaux Monastery . In the monastery suspension ( disentailment ) under the government of Juan Álvarez Mendizábal the monastery in 1835, was dissolved.
