The Surbourg Monastery (French Abbatiale Saint-Jean-Baptiste ) is a former Benedictine monastery in Surburg in the Holy Forest near Haguenau in Alsace .

The St. John the Baptist ordained Abbey is the oldest monastic foundation in Alsace. Around 570 St. Arbogast of Strasbourg , when he became bishop in Strasbourg, the monastery. The current church was built in the 11th century and is still largely preserved from the time it was built as a Romanesque basilica . There is a stone from Carolingian times with three flowers above the entrance door and parts of a Roman column have been built into the outer wall. The bones of the cave. Arbogast have been missing since 1499.
