Timadeuc Monastery
Monastery Timadeuc (lat. Abbatia BM de Timadeuco ) is since 1841 an abbey of the Trappists in Bréhan , in the Morbihan department , Roman Catholic Diocese of Vannes , France .
history
Monks of the monastery La Trappe founded the monastery Timadeuc ("fear of God") in Brittany in 1841 , which was elevated to an abbey in 1847 . In 1880 the monks were expelled from the hostile republic , but their return shortly afterwards was tolerated. In 1901 Timadeuc resettled the Canadian monastery of Petit Clairvaux (intended as a refuge from the law separating church and state ), but abandoned it in 1919. The current buildings were built between 1925 and 1930. The heroic attitude of the monastery (namely by Jean-Mathurin Guénaël Thomas ) during the German occupation was honored in 1946 with the award of the Médaille de la Résistance .
