The Torigny Abbey is a former Cistercian abbey in France . It was in the municipality of Torigni-sur-Vire in the Manche department , Normandy region , around 14 km southeast of Saint-Lô .
history
The monastery was founded in 1307 (or 1308) by the archdeacon and royal personal physician Robert Le Fèvre , making it one of the latest medieval Cistercian monasteries in France. The mother monastery was Aulnay Monastery from the filiation of Savigny Monastery and thus Clairvaux Primary Abbey , the founding abbot was Jean de la Boulaye. In 1630, the Villers-Canivet nunnery built a Cistercian nunnery in Torigni .
Buildings and plant
No remains of the monastery have survived. A portal of the nuns' chapel still stands in the cemetery.
