Andechs Klosterbier at the 14th Cologne Beer Exchange (2012)

The Andechs Monastery Brewery is a brewery owned by the Benedictine Abbey of Sankt Bonifaz in Munich and Andechs . It is based in Andechs (Upper Bavaria). It is the only monastery brewery in Germany that brews bock beers all year round and sells them throughout Germany. The annual beer output is over 100,000 hl. Only a small part of the Andechs monastery beer is served on the "Holy Mountain of Bavaria" in Andechs. Most of the production is distributed throughout Germany and many countries as far as Russia, Finland and Japan.

history

Since the Middle Ages (documentary evidence since 1455) was in Andechs already beer brewed. The Benedictine monks continued the brewing tradition over the centuries. In 1906, for example, a seven-story malt house made of reinforced concrete was erected. The first bottling plant followed in 1950. In 1972 the convent decided to build a completely new brewery at the foot of the Holy Mountain. A modern barrel and bottle cellar was completed in 1974. The new brewhouse followed in 1983. In 2006, the expansion of the fermentation and storage cellar was completed. In 2007 the brewhouse was completely renovated.
