Klosterrode old castle

Klosterrode is a part of the municipality Blankenheim in Saxony-Anhalt .

history

In a register of the tithes of the Hersfeld monastery that was created between 881 and 899, Klosterrode is first mentioned in a document as Hildiburgorod im Friesenfeld, which is subject to a tithing obligation , later as Hillebergrode. Founded around 1147, the Rode monastery was in the care of the Premonstratensians until it was secularized in 1543 .

In 1540 it was converted into a manor and expanded like a castle. Initially owned by the von Bodenhausen and von Alvensleben families , it was acquired by the Counts of Schulenburg in 1739 . After the Schulenburg-Klosterrode line of the counts died out with the death of Friedrich Albrecht von der Schulenburg in 1853, the property was managed by changing owners.

A new building erected as a mansion between 1778 and 1783, the so-called New Castle , was blown up in 1936.
