Blankenheim is a municipality that belongs to the Verbandsgemeinde Mansfelder Grund-Helbra and is located in the district of Mansfeld-Südharz in the state of Saxony-Anhalt . The Röhrgraben creek , which flows westwards, begins in Blankenheim .
Geographical location
Blankenheim is located on the Hornburger Sattel in the southeastern Harz foreland on state road 151 between Emseloh and Lutherstadt Eisleben . A railway line runs through the village with the Magdeburg – Erfurt line on a section of the Berlin – Blankenheim line and the Göttingen – Halle (Saale) line on the Halle – Hann railway line. Münden , which here leads through an 875 m long tunnel. To the west of the village lies the Utenfelde desert .
history
The first documentary mention of Blankenheim took place in 1181. The further development of the place is closely connected with the history of the Premonstratensian monastery (1147–1543) Rode in today's district of Klosterrode .
Blankenheim belonged to the Sangerhausen office of the Kingdom of Saxony until 1815 and then came to the Merseburg administrative district of the Prussian province of Saxony . From 1952 to 1990 Blankenheim belonged to the GDR district of Halle.
For many decades, the place was under the manor of Klosterrode, which belonged to the Count von der Schulenburg and had the right of patronage over the church in Blankenheim and, until 1848, the higher and lower courts over the place.
During the Second World War , 16 people died in Blankenheim as a result of US air raids and 70 people died as soldiers.

The coat of arms was developed by the Magdeburg local heraldist Jörg Mantzsch and approved by the district on November 6, 2007.
Blazon : "A green oak with acorns growing out of a raised green shield base, in the shield base a round, arched, black breakthrough, bordered by silver house stones and covered with silver miners' teeth."
The colors of the municipality are - derived from the tincture of the main coat of arms motif (oak) and the tincture of the shield - green - white.

Blankenheim has the Blankenheim station (Kr Sangerhausen) on the Halle – Hann railway line. Münden on the southern outskirts near the Blankenheimer tunnel , at the eastern end of which the Berlin – Blankenheim railway ends. There are also bus connections from the Südharz transport company to the surrounding towns.
