Edersleben is a municipality that is part of the Goldene Aue community in the Mansfeld-Südharz district , Saxony-Anhalt , Germany .
Geographical location
Edersleben is located in the so-called Rieth in the lower Helmetal . The federal road 86 leads through the village from Sangerhausen to Artern . The Sangerhausen-Erfurt railway line runs east of the village .
history
At the beginning of the 9th century Edersleben is mentioned in a document as Edieslebo in a list of the goods of the Hersfeld Monastery, built by Archbishop Lullus († 786) of Mainz . Edersleben belonged to the Electorate of Saxony until 1815 and then came to the Merseburg administrative district of the Prussian province of Saxony . During the Second World War there was no fighting in and around the place, but various aircraft crashed in the vicinity of Edersleben, for example a Bf-109 on the Sandberg. A total of 53 Edersleber were killed as soldiers in the war. From 1952 to 1990 Edersleben belonged to East Germany - Halle Region .

Attractions
- The village church of St. Bartholomew was built from 1827 to 1830 according to Schinkel's plans .
- Skeleton of an approximately 475,000 year old mammoth found in 1930 , now in the Spengler Museum in Sangerhausen.
- The upper mill, first mentioned in 1430, can be visited as a private mill museum. The historic mill technology is fully functional and the mill has had its historic Zuppinger water wheel again since 2008.
