history

In a register of the tithe of the Hersfeld monastery that was created between 881 and 899, Bornstedt ( Brunistat ) is named as a place subject to a tenancy obligation in the Gau Friesenfeld . The Schweinswende desert is also located near Bornstedt . The ruins of Bornstedt Castle are located at a height east of the village . Bornstedt was owned by the Counts of Mansfeld from 1301 to 1780 .

Bornstedt was the administrative seat of the Bornstedt office .
