The boys' education center in Fischau-Brunn existed between 1852 and 1918 as a military training facility and served as barracks during the Nazi era .

history

An original farm with a mill became a "velvet ribbon factory" in 1812, which was converted into a cotton mill in 1827. In 1850 the building was acquired by the Arar , some buildings - including a chapel - were added and the existing buildings were converted accordingly for future use from 1852 onwards by an " infantry school company ".

In 1859 it was converted into a military training center, this function was retained until 1870.

Between 1870 and 1872 troops of the Army and Landwehr were quartered here. This was done under the designation "military quartering house".

From 1872 to 1876 it was used as a convalescent house .

On October 8, 1877, the "military orphanage" was officially opened with 120 pupils . From 1883 the military orphanage was part of the complex of military schools and educational institutes . In 1891 the name and task were changed: "Educational Institute for Orphaned Officer's Sons".

After the "Educational Institute for Orphaned Officer's Sons" was relocated to Hirtenberg in 1898 , a "military lower secondary school" with four years and a total of 120 pupils was set up, which existed here until the collapse of the monarchy in 1918.

Between 1920 and 1938 the so-called “institute” housed an apprentice rest home.

After the annexation of Austria and the invasion of the German armed forces in Austria , the "Regiment General Göring" took up quarters in the building complex now known as the "Fliegerkaserne Hermann Göring". The regimental command moved into Fischau Castle and set up the command post there. Various training courses were held here later.

During the occupation between 1945 and 1955, Red Army troops were quartered here. After they were removed, the buildings and green spaces appeared in a neglected state.

The municipality of Bad Fischau acquired the facility in 1968 and first set up a sports field in the park in 1971 and a tennis facility in 1975. The buildings were demolished in 1973 and a residential complex was built in their place and named after Ferdinand Hanusch as Ferdinand-Hanusch-Hof .
