Knieperdamm 5 (Stralsund)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Knieperdamm 5 is the postal address of a building in Stralsund on Knieperdamm . Until the end of 2017, this was where the former Citizens Resource building, registered with the number 411 in the list of architectural monuments in Stralsund , was located, which was later used as a pioneer house or school leisure center and was most recently empty and fell into disrepair. The building has an approximately 5000 square meter plot of land on which Stralsund's probably oldest tree, a yew tree, also stands.

After the listed building was demolished in November 2017, a fitness center and medical supply store are to be built on the site by the end of 2019 .

At the beginning of the 19th century, councilor Arnold Lucas Langemak acquired the land from Knieperdamm 4 to Gerhart-Hauptmann-Straße and combined them to form a large garden. Around 1811/1812 he built a summer house with a stable and beekeeping. On February 18, 1850, the Bürger-Ressource association bought the garden for 21,000 Reichstaler and began to prepare it for summer festivals and open-air concerts. Hans Heinrich Grotjahn also contributed a draft . A hall was built and inaugurated on August 19, 1850. In this former summer house of the councilor was now the parlor ; A half-timbered porch with an elaborately decorated wooden paneling was attached to it, from which the serving at garden parties took place. Ten years later a games room was added, and in 1873 a veranda for women ("ladies' veranda") on Knierperdamm was added. In 1878 a new bandstand was built. In Buergergarten festivals, masquerade balls, garden concerts, garden exhibitions and lectures were held.

After the Second World War, on the instructions of the military command of the Soviet Army, all associations were dissolved. The Bürgergarten was assigned to the Free German Trade Union Federation on May 1, 1946 . The house was now referred to as the union building. However, the reputation of the Bürgergarten got worse and worse, and there were always fights at celebrations. In 1950 it was decided to hand over the house to the pioneer organization Ernst Thälmann . On October 5, 1950, the "Young Pioneers District House" was opened. Under supervision there were among others the working groups aquarists , meteorology , chess , philately and a photo circle .

After the "turning point" in 1989/1990, the former community garden was used as a school leisure center for a few years.

In 1999 the building complex was transferred to welfare institutions through heritable building rights , but their plans to set up a generation house there failed; the complex, which could only be partially built on, was therefore reversed.

The house fell into disrepair, the garden overgrown. According to the restorer Wolf Thormeier (2017), both the building and the park have hardly been changed since the time of construction, so that it is a rare testimony to an excursion restaurant from the 19th and 20th centuries in the suburbs of Stralsund.

In July 2013, Mayor Alexander Badrow informed the citizenship that an investor had been found for the house who wanted to set up a restaurant there; the decision to sell the property should be made in September of that year. In consultation with the State Office for Monument Preservation , no other solution had been found.

In January 2015, an interested party from Duisburg was informed that negotiations were already underway and that his request would therefore be rejected.

On June 19, 2015, the Pommersche Diakonieverein in Greifswald submitted a purchase application to build a meeting center with a family-oriented residential and service building; 280,000 euros were offered. At the beginning of January 2016, a community of builders, consisting of the fitness center "Gym Fitness World" and the Schumann medical supply store, renewed their offer for the property in the amount of 275,000 euros with reference to the building application submitted on January 6, 2014. On January 22nd, 2016 the Diakonieverein renewed its offer; on the same day, the building owners' association increased their offer to 285,000 euros. In March 2016, the city administration announced in response to a request that the building would be demolished and a fitness center and medical supply store would be built on the property . Investors for this are “Gym Fitness World” and the Schumann medical supply store; the second interested party, the Pomeranian Diakonieverein Greifswald, stated that it raised its bid again. The community of investors offered 285,000 euros for the property, including the property, ready for demolition; the Diakonieverein had initially offered 5000 euros less, but had promised to spend 300,000 euros. According to a memo, the city administration has favored the plan to build a fitness center since the beginning of 2014. On December 1, 2016, the citizens of Stralsund decided to sell the area for 285,000 euros to the building owners' association.

In October 2017, one of the investors announced that the building would be demolished in the same year to make room for the new construction of a fitness center and a medical supply store. All the necessary permits from the responsible authorities of the city administration and the district were available. For this purpose, a photographic building documentation had to be handed over to the monument protection authority because of the monument protection nature. The building was demolished on November 11, 2017. A veranda of the building was dismantled and is to be rebuilt in the Bürgergarten pub on Knieperteich. A brick wall was also preserved.

Twelve of the 30 trees on the property are to be felled for the construction project, including linden, maple, false cypress, yew, birch, tree of gods and tree hazel.

The foundation stone for the new building was laid on November 21, 2018.
