Heinz Giesen
Heinz Giesen CSsR (born March 22, 1940 in Bochum ; † July 18, 2016 in Bonn ) was a German religious priest and Roman Catholic theologian .
Life
One of the five children of the married couple Hubert and Sophie Giesen, he initially worked in administration after his school days and the final apprenticeship examination at the Administration Academy in Bochum . After graduating from high school in 1962 at the Collegium Josephinum Bonn , he entered the novitiate of the Redemptorists in Trier , where he made his first profession on March 25, 1963 . From 1963 to 1968 he completed his philosophical and theological studies at the Redemptorist College in Hennef - Geistingen . Adolf Kindermann ordained him as a priest on July 22, 1968. This was followed by a second degree at the Pontificio Ateneo Sant'Anselmo in Rome , where he was awarded a Dr. theol. (specialist in dogmatic theology ) doctorate was. After further postgraduate studies at the Biblicum in Rome, he was awarded a Dr. Doctorate in re biblica ( exegesis ).
Since the winter semester 1973 he has been teaching at the university in Hennef as an associate professor and since the winter semester 1976 he has been a full professor for the subject of exegesis. After the Redemptorist College was dissolved in 1996, he taught New Testament exegesis at the PTH St. Augustin until his retirement in 2008 . In addition, he held temporary teaching assignments at the St. Lambert Study House , at the PTH Münster , at the University of Wuppertal and in the winter semester 2000/2001 a visiting professor at the theological faculty of the KU Eichstätt-Ingolstadt . Heinz Giesen belonged to the monastery community in Geistingen for the longest time. In January 2006 he moved to the Bonn community.
research
Giesen was particularly interested in the Apocalypse of John . Another subject area with which he dealt intensively was the biblical theology of God's rule , especially in his book "Lordship of God - Today or Tomorrow? On the Salvation Message of Jesus and the Synoptic Gospels". In it, he turned against the thesis that the historical Jesus, the evangelists, and with them most of the first Christians the imminent end of the world anticipated ( imminent ).
