description

Knockderry Castle was built between 1851 and 1854. As an architect, Alexander Thomson was responsible for the planning. The asymmetrical, three-story castle has a rectangular floor plan and has stylistic features of the Scottish Baronials . In 1869 several extensions were added under the planning of John Honeyman . Knockderry Castle received its architectural significance from the extensive redesign and expansion by the architect William Leiper in 1896 and 1897, who also shaped the interior design in particular. The castle is made of rubble from sandstone . Ribbons, ornaments and bottles are made of polished sandstone and set off. The building ends with slate-covered gable roofs , the gables of which are worked as a stepped gable . The corner towers have conical roofs crowned by weather vanes .
