The Knorrsche House 2011

The Knorrsche Haus is a listed half-timbered house with an auxiliary building in Kirchgasse 4, municipality of Uder im Eichsfeld, built in the 16th century .

History and building stock

The first mentioned in the 12th century with the settlement Ritter family of Knorr de othera had many relations in medieval Eichsfeld, so the castle Rusteberg , the Scharfenstein Castle and to the families von Hanstein and Wintzingerode , but its origins ranged sure a few centuries back. The estate was near the then and now church at the Knorr'schen Quellen or Kessenborn, where the Kirchbach rises. The neighboring street Eulenburg could indicate a fortification of the courtyard. It is not known exactly when the noble von Uder family left the place and settled elsewhere in the Eichsfeld.

Today's homestead was built at the beginning of the 16th century. It consists of a main building and a side room, the so-called old part . Both houses are connected by a wall with a large arched gate and a rectangular closed door on the left, which lead into the inner courtyard between the houses. The entrances are framed by red sandstone. The lintel bar records the year 1775. The two-story main house has a floor area of approx. 12.30 x 6.90 m and a gable roof facing the street. The two-storey outbuilding is narrower and is arranged on the eaves side. According to historical findings, both houses were built in the 16th century and are considered to be the oldest buildings in the town. The struts are curved and mortised, the old part shows St. Andrew's crosses on the upper floor as "Franconian half-timbered" style features.

1600–1602 the court was apparently the subject of a dispute between the citizen's widow Liborius Otte and Friedrich Knorr.

In 1981 the house was declared a monument . In January 2011 it was bought from an insolvency estate on the initiative of Mayor Gerhard Martin by the municipality of Uder and handed over to the association “Knorrsches Haus” eV founded for this purpose . The renovation was completed in 2018 and the ensemble is used as a historic registry office, mayor's office and cultural and historical center. In the so-called old part there is a pilgrimage apartment, because the community Uder at St. James is located.

Freundeskreis Knorrsches Haus

The association Freundeskreis "Knorrsches Haus" eV was founded in 2011 and has 64 members (as of 2020). He carried out extensive security and renovation measures to preserve the house himself and has been managing the building since then.

The association maintains a wide range of contacts with the descendants of the von Knorr family. They live partly in the Baltic States (von Knorring), but also in different regions of Germany (von Hanstein-Knorr, von Wintzingerode-Knorr).

The association offers a variety of cultural events in the medieval courtyard. Since 2011 Mr. Andreas Uhlich has been the first chairman of the association. As part of a restructuring, Mr. Jens Offenbecher also became chairman of the association in 2015.
