Life

Rainald was a son of the noble Concorezzo family from Milan. He first worked as a papal chaplain in Rome and was appointed bishop of Vicenza by Pope Boniface VIII (1294-1303) in 1296 , where he was represented by a procurator. From 1299 he was an apostolic delegate in the peace negotiations between France and England . 1303 took place by Pope Benedict XI. (1303-1304) the appointment as Archbishop of Ravenna: Concoregio was elected by the majority of the chapter, the minority had chosen Leonardo Fieschi. In December 1303 the official transfer from Vicenza to Ravenna took place, where Rainald did not arrive personally until October 1305. As archbishop he tried to mediate in the dispute over the Knights Templar from 1307 , but this attempt did not resolve the dispute. Pope Clement V (1305-1314) declared the Knights Templar on March 22, 1312 dissolved. Rainald worked intensively for pastoral care and endeavored to maintain good connections with Rome. Already shortly after the death of Rainald the veneration of saints began , whose cult in 1852 by Pope Pius IX. (1846–1878) was approved . His ecclesiastical feast day was set on August 18 (the day of his death). The name Rainald means "the ruler with advice" ( Old High German ).
