Knox's Headquarters

The Knox's Headquarters State Historic Site refers to a complex of buildings and the surrounding land in the town of New Windsor in Orange County , New York , United States .

The Georgian style building was built in 1754. During the American Revolutionary War , it served as the headquarters of General Henry Knox , which is why it got its name. After that it was also used as headquarters by Generals Nathanael Greene and Horatio Gates . Today the property is publicly operated and serves as a museum.

The Jane Colden Memorial Garden commemorates the botanist Jane Colden and only shows plants from the region that she has described.

The Knox's Headquarters State Historic Site was established in November 1972 as National Historic Landmark recognized and enforced in the National Register of Historic Places added. It is one of 273 National Historic Sites in New York State.
