Knut Ahnlund

Knut Ahnlund ( pronunciation : [ ˌknʉːt ˈɑːnlɵnd ], born May 24, 1923 in Stockholm ; † November 28, 2012 ) was a Swedish literary historian, author and from 1983 until his death in 2012 a member of the Swedish Academy .

Ahnlund only rarely took part in the work of the academy between 1996 and 2005 due to personal conflicts. In 2005 he announced that he would leave the work of the academy entirely as a protest against the awarding of the 2004 Nobel Prize for Literature to Elfriede Jelinek . According to the Swedish daily Svenska Dagbladet, he said: “The Nobel Prize for Elfriede Jelinek has destroyed the value of the award for the foreseeable future.” Her work is “listless violent pornography”, “poor and poor”.
