Knut Blind

Knut Blind (* 1965 ) is a German economist . He deals with general questions of innovation research, in particular with the influence of regulatory framework conditions on innovations.

Life

Blind studied economics, political science and psychology at the University of Freiburg and Brock University in Canada. He worked as a research assistant at the Institute for Public Finance in Freiburg, where he received his doctorate . He completed his habilitation at the University of Kassel . Since 2006 he has been a professor for the field of innovation economics at the Technical University of Berlin . This department in the Institute for Technology and Management of the Faculty of Business and Management was set up in 2006 together with the Fraunhofer Institute for Systems and Innovation Research ISI in Karlsruhe. From 2008 to 2016 he held the endowed chair of standardization at the Rotterdam School of Management at the Erasmus University Rotterdam .

From 1996 to 2010 Blind held managerial positions at the (ISI) in Karlsruhe. In 2010 he moved to the Fraunhofer Institute for Open Communication Systems FOKUS in Berlin, from where he returned to the ISI in Karlsruhe in October 2019, where he took over the management of the Innovation and Regulation division.

Blind has published in high-profile international journals, including Research Policy, Technovation, Journal of Technology Transfer, Industrial an Corporate Change, IEEE Transactions on Engineering Management, Telecommunications Policy and Journal of Productivity Analysis, Industry & Innovation and R&D Management. For his life's work, he has been one of the leading German business economists in the Handelsblatt business economist ranking , which was adopted by Wirtschaftswoche in 2018. He was also listed in the 2013 FAZ economists ranking of the most influential German economists. Blind's dissertation was awarded the FA v. Hayek Prize awarded by the Faculty of Economics at the University of Freiburg.

In 2012 he initiated the German Standardization Panel together with DIN eV, the German Institute for Standardization and the Berlin Innovation Panel by commissioning the Center for European Economic Research (ZEW). Both panels can already fall back on eight annual surveys.

Development of a Decision Making Tool and Recommendations for Young Companies" together with Nizar Abdelkafi, Sergiy Makhotin, Marina Thuns and Anna Pohle from the Fraunhofer Center for International Management and Knowledge Economy
  • 2015: Award for the second best paper "Regulation and Standardization of Data Protection in Cloud Computing" together with Martin Löhe (Technical University Berlin, Germany) at the ITU Kaleidoscope 2015 conference "Trust in the Information Society"
  • 2013: WISU Prof homepage of the month October 2013
  • 2012: IEC - IEEE 2nd prize for the paper "The benefits of standards and standardization in the German electric and electronic industry" together with Dr. Axel Mangelsdorf
