Körfez Spor Kulübü , or Körfez SK for short , is a Turkish football club from the province of Kocaeli .

history

The club was founded in 1995 under the name Körfez Belediyespor as a team of the city administration (hence the name part Belediyespor , in German about sports club of the city administration; the name part Körfez refers to the bay, in Turkish körfez , from İzmit) Kocaelis . The club rose to the TFF 3rd Lig in the 2000s and also made it temporarily to the TFF 2nd Lig .

To escape the image of a corporate association, the association was renamed Körfezspor in summer 2010.

For a long time the club served as the second team of Kocaelispor . After Kocaelispor was relegated from the Süper Lig to the TFF 3rd Lig due to financial difficulties , they tried to build Körfezspor as the city's first team. So it was decided in the summer of 2011 to change the name to Kocaeli Futbol Kulübü (short: Kocaeli FK) and the club colors to green-black, thus clarifying the status of the successor club to Kocaelispor. All Kocaelispor players also switched to Körfezspor for the new season. The proposed name, the new logo and the new club colors were not accepted by the Turkish Football Association. So an agreement was reached with the football association on the name Körfez Futbol Kulübü and the club colors green-black-red.

The club changed its name to Kocaeli Birlikspor (German Kocaeli Union Sport ) before the start of the season . After the former traditional club Kocaelispor was relegated in the fourth division season 2013/14 and thus said goodbye to Turkish professional football, a later merger with or takeover of Kocaelispor was prepared with this name change. The club colors have been retained and only the club name has been updated in the club logo.

In February 2019, club owner and former goalkeeper Erhan Yılmaz handed over his shares to Hamit Maden. At the end of the fourth division season 2018/19, the club missed relegation in the TFF 1st Lig and was relegated to the Boelgesel Amatoer Lig , the highest Turkish amateur league. After relegation, the club management changed the name of the club to Körfez Spor Kulübü , or in short, Körfez SK .
