3.4 Kodomonokuni ( こ ど も の 国 ) 1967–

The Kodomonokuni Line ( Japanese こ ど も の 国 線 ) is a railway line on the Japanese island of Honshū , which is owned by the Yokohama Kōsoku Tetsudō railway company and operated by Tōkyū Dentetsu on their behalf . The short branch line in the north of the city of Yokohama opens up, among other things, the eponymous theme park Kodomo no kuni .

description

The line laid in Cape gauge (1067 mm) is single-track and electrified with 1500 V DC . It branches off the Den'entoshi Line at Nagatsuta Station in Midori-ku District and heads north over a distance of 3.4 km to Kodomonokuni Station. This is right next to the Kodomo no kuni theme park . Train crossings are only possible in the Onda station in between. The maximum speed is limited to 65 km / h, Nagatsuta is the only staffed station. Next to Onda station, there has been a six-track depot since 1972 , where Tōkyū Dentetsu trains are parked and serviced.

Trains

Trains run between 6 a.m. and 11 p.m. During rush hour , every 10 minutes is offered, otherwise every 20 minutes. On public holidays (for example during the Golden Week ) there is also a ride every ten minutes, corresponding to the larger number of visitors to the amusement park.

Before the upgrade to a suburban line in 2000, rail operations were limited to the opening times of the amusement park. For this reason, the trains only ran between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. On days of rest in the amusement park (usually on Mondays) the timetable was very thin, but the number of connections on public holidays was higher. Since there was no turnaround at that time, only one train could run on the route; when there was a large crowd, more cars were attached.

history

On the site of a former ammunition depot of the Imperial Japanese Army , a welfare organization opened the Kodomo no kuni ( こ ど も の 国 , English “Kinderland”) amusement park named after it in May 1965 . In order to facilitate the journey, the organization built a feeder line to Nagatsuta station and transferred the management to the Tōkyū Dentetsu . The line was opened on April 28, 1967. Due to increased residential construction activity in the area from the late 1980s, the need gradually arose to expand the pure excursion railway for general passenger traffic. For this purpose, it was sold on April 1, 1997 to the railway company Yokohama Kōsoku Tetsudō . The new owner set up a rail replacement service on November 10 of the same year in order to be able to completely renew the route. On March 29, 2000 the line was reopened together with the new Onda station. Tōkyū Dentetsu is still responsible for rail operations to this day.
