history

The cola brand Kofola has a strong presence in the Czech and Slovak markets, and the history of the then state-owned company goes back to the 1960s. At that time, the pharmaceutical company Galena was researching a use for the surplus of caffeine that was created during coffee roasting. After 1989 Kofola competed, there were initially several independent companies that produced drinks under the name Kofola, since Kofola was not a protected brand at the time. In addition, foreign beverage manufacturers pushed their way into the Czech and Slovak markets. As of 2000, the beverage manufacturer Santa nápoje was the only company that had permission to produce beverages under the name Kofola. In 2003 Santa nápoje officially changed its name to Kofola as .

In 2008, Kofola as merged with the Polish Hoop SA Hoop was founded in 1992 and had a strong presence on the Polish market. Both companies were in competition with the American corporations PepsiCo and the Coca-Cola Company . After Kofola and Hoop merged in 2008, the company was briefly called KofolaHoop, but was renamed Kofola that same year. The company was listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange.

In 2012 the Kofola ČeskoSlovensko Holding was founded. In 2015, the company was admitted to trading on the Prague Stock Exchange ; admission to the Warsaw Stock Exchange ended in 2016.
