Kofola

Kofola is a carbonated and caffeinated soft drink produced by the Czech joint-stock company Kofola as . In the Czech Republic and Slovakia, Kofola competes with Coca-Cola and Pepsi .

history

Kofola was founded by the Czechoslovak pharmaceutical company Galena in the early 1960s. Back then, the company was researching a use for the surplus of caffeine that was created during coffee roasting . The research result was Kofo , a dark, sweet and sour tasting syrup , which was to become the main component of the new soft drink Kofola, which was first sold in 1962 .

During the 1960s and 1970s, Kofola became extremely popular in Czechoslovakia, as it was a replacement for the mostly unavailable Western products Coca-Cola or Pepsi -Cola . In the 1980s, Pepsi was available, but more expensive. After the fall of state socialism in 1989, Kofola was exposed to competition from the foreign brands that were just entering the market. There were also legal disputes between local producers, who all made their own "kofolas". After years of decline, the company Santa nápoje , located in Krnov in the Czech Republic and owned by the Greek Samaras family, finally managed to have “Kofola” protected as a registered trademark and to become the sole manufacturer and distributor of Kofola in the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

In 2002 Santa nápoje built a new bottling plant in Rajecká Lesná, Slovakia , in order to be able to satisfy the demand of the Slovak market, in 2005 a plant in Kutno, Poland followed . With this, the number of employees rose to over 1,000. Since 2003 the company has been called Kofola as. In addition to Kofola, it also produces the Top Topic, Jupí, Jupík and RC Cola brands and exports them to Hungary , Slovenia and Croatia .

A successful media campaign began in 2002, aimed at a younger and more modern target group. It was founded on the slogan “Když ji miluješ, není co řešit. / Keď ju miluješ, never je čo riešiť. ” ( “ If you love her, nothing else matters ). Until 2000 the Kofola logo showed a coffee bean, today it is a coffee blossom. In addition to containers for the end consumer, Kofola is also sold in 50 liter barrels in the Czech Republic and Slovakia, which meet the needs of bars and restaurants, where they are known as "Točená Kofola" ( "Kofola on tap" ) or "Čapovaná Kofola" ( "Tapped Kofola" , Slovakia) is offered.

In 2010, Kofola opened a new factory in Mnichovo Hradiště .
