Gerhard Wiedemann

Gerhard Wiedemann (born January 4, 1909 in Berlin , † April 25, 1997 in Bonn ) was a German engineer .

Life

After studying traffic and construction engineering at the TH Berlin and the TH Munich , he was appointed to the government building council in 1940 . In this function he was sent to France to set up and manage the Maritime Road Administration (SWSta). From 1945 he was head of the nautical sign service in the British and American occupation zone Kiel / Hamburg. As chief construction officer, he had the task of creating mine-free shipping routes and re-establishing the designation of German waters and taking all necessary measures to ensure that the occupying powers were supplied with supplies and that the population was supplied with food. After the founding of the federal government, he took over the management of the department for shipping signs in the Federal Ministry of Transport. Under his leadership, the German shipping sign system achieved a high international reputation through the use of the most modern techniques.

In the years 1953–1962 he was a member of the Committee of Experts of the ECE to standardize the designation of the European inland waterways and the police regulations in Europe. In December 1954 he was appointed Ministerial Councilor. As a founding member, he played a key role in the founding of the International Association of Lighthouse Authorities in 1957 . After his doctorate as Dr.-Ing. at the TH Stuttgart in 1958 he received a teaching position at the Technical University of Hanover in 1963 and was appointed honorary professor in 1968 . After his retirement in 1974 he made his knowledge and worldwide experience available as a consultant.
