The former college building II in Schwerin , old town district , Schloßstraße 6/8, is a monument in Schwerin . Since 1990 it has been the seat of the ministries of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania .

history

A Franciscan monastery stood on the grounds of the college building from around 1236 , which was largely demolished in 1557. Buildings still preserved were used as farm buildings for the duchy and demolished during the construction of Collegiate Building I.

The three- to four-storey 14- axis plastered late classicist house around a rectangular inner courtyard with a mezzanine floor , four gable risers and the portico was built in 1890/92 as Government Building II according to plans by Georg Daniel . It is connected by a corridor (ironically called civil servant career path ) via a gate or triumphal arch with the Collegiate Building I , today's State Chancellery . The architecture was based on the college building I designed by Georg Adolph Demmler .

The administration building served the ministries of the Grand Duchy of Mecklenburg-Schwerin and the Free State of Mecklenburg-Schwerin (until 1934). From 1934 to 1945 it was the seat of the administration of the Reichsstatthalters and Gauleiter and until 1990 the seat of the council of the Schwerin district and the workers and farmers inspection (GDR) .

Various ministries have been housed here since 1990: Environment (1990–1994, 1998–2006); Construction, Regional Development and Environment (1994–1998); Transport, Building and Regional Development (2008–2011); Energy, Infrastructure and Regional Development as well as the Ministry for Energy, Infrastructure and Digitization (from 2011).
