Aden Colony
The colony of Aden was the crown colony of the British Empire from 1937 to 1963 and consisted of the South Arabian port city of Aden and its surroundings. From 1839 to 1932, the 121 km² area was part of the Bombay Presidency as Aden branch and then directly subordinated to British India until 1937 . In the hinterland of the Aden colony was the Aden protectorate .
Some of the more distant islands were also subordinate to the colony:
- Kamaran (380 km northwest off the coast of North Yemen in the Red Sea )
- Perim (170 km west in the Bab el Mandeb Strait )
- Churiya Muriya Islands (1250 km northeast of the coast of Oman in the Arabian Sea , now part of Oman)
On January 18, 1963, it became part of the South Arab Federation as the State of Aden .
