Geoinformation Economy Commission

The Commission for Geoinformation Management (also GeoBusiness , GIW Commission ) at the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy existed from 2004 to 2016.

The Commission for Geographic Information Management was set up as an intermediary between business and administration . Its aim was to make the framework conditions for the use of state geospatial data transparent, comprehensible and uniform across Germany. It was composed of representatives of German business associations that are active in the fields of application of geodata. The office of the commission was affiliated with the Federal Institute for Geosciences and Raw Materials in Hanover . The founding meeting took place on November 17, 2004 under the leadership of the then Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Minister of Economics and Labor Rezzo Schlauch . On December 31, 2016, the Commission ceased operations.

Projects carried out

  • The Commission made a directory of geo-based Internet services available to public administrations and other providers under the name GeoInfoMarkt.
  • With GeoLicense.org, the commission provided a uniform license for the use of spatial data.
  • Together with the association Selbstregulierung Informationswirtschaft eV, the commission has drawn up a code of conduct for the data protection-compliant use of geodata.
  • Other projects of the Commission for Geoinformation Management included: GeoMore, GeoNetz, GeoRisiko, GeoRealEstate, GeoRohstoff and GeoWaldwirtschaft.

Others

The GIW Commission was regularly represented at CeBIT and the Intergeo trade fair . Since 2009 GeoBusiness has awarded the GeoBusinessAward, endowed with 10,000 euros, for innovative business models in the field of geodata.
