Komo is an island in the south of the Lau Islands in the Pacific Ocean . Politically, it belongs to the Eastern Division of the island state of Fiji .
geography
Komo is located in the Koro Sea , around 40 km northeast of Kabara , 18 km north of Namuka-i-Lau and 12 km west of Moce . The kidney-shaped island is 1.5 km long, up to 500 m wide and has an area of around 0.5 km². It is densely overgrown with coconut palms and reaches a height of 82 m above sea level. The island is surrounded by an almost closed coral reef , which only has two passages in the north, East and West Passage , into the lagoon . 250 m west of Komo (at 18 ° 41 ′ S , 178 ° 39 ′ W ) lies the small island Komo Ndriti ( Eng . "Little Komo"), which is connected to Komo by an underwater reef. On the southwest coast of Komo, Komo Village, is the only village on the island that administratively belongs to the island of Kabara, one of the 13 traditional districts ( Tikina ) of the Lau province.
